Bowling Pin Spacing
Are you looking to learn more about how bowling pins are spaced out?
To start with, a bowling rack is made up of 10 pins laid out in the form of an equilateral triangle.
To be clear, a “pin deck” refers to a set of 10 pins placed on the pin deck.
Each bowling pin is numbered between 1 to 10 as you can see from the diagram below:
The first pin is called the head pin.
Behind the head pin, you have nine other pins placed at equal distances one from the other.
The bowling pins are placed in an equilateral triangular shape composed of three segments:
- Segment A
- Segment B
- Segment C
Let’s look at the space between each of these segments.
Segment A: Pins From One Another
In Segment A, the bowling pins are placed at 12 inches from one another.
Segment B: Pins In Front or Behind Another
In Segment B, the bowling pins are placed at 20.75 inches one in front of the other.
Segment B applies to pins 8 and 2, 1 and 5, 3 and 9 as they are placed directly one behind (or in front) of one another.
Segment C: Side of Pin Deck
In Segment C, the side of the pin deck or the equilateral triangle measures 36 inches.
